  Critical Reflection Project #2

Moving on, the third Critical Reflection project I did a power point, going into further detail on my points. After I created the Power point I added a voice over of me going through the presentation, as if I was presenting it. The question that I did it on was "How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?". First I will attach my original answer to this post and then my project.

Our movie “Lost” is a coming-of-age movie, with two girl main characters. The story line is about these two girls who are inseparable best friends who have lived their whole lives together. Until one day they got into a tragic car accident, causing one of the girls, Blair to lose her life. The other character Riley is forced to navigate her life now without her best friend and it follows her through that journey. Our film is a very typical coming of age that follows many conventions. The first convention being obvious the characters being teenage age, that young before adulthood age is what most characters in coming-of-age movies. Another conventions that our plot is centered around is the major life change and overcoming challenge that Riley has to face. Most coming-of-age movies are based on a character that has to face a challenge in their life and it is considered as “part of growing up” hence the typical age the characters in these movies are. The characters' challenge makes them go through a period of growth and development coming out the other end, changes and matured and we followed that trait exactly and in our case the challenge was losing Blair. Now translating those conventions into how the film represents social groups. I would say that it represents people that have gone through a challenge that caused them grief or anyone that can relate to Riley's situation. Rileys experience is something most people experience but it represents their time and brings awareness to everyone who has possibly been in the same situation. Also, it represents a larger group of young girls. Throughout our video we did our best to try to represent a fun teen life. Anyone in that age group can find similarities in their life and the characters, it represents what they dress like, things they do, and their interests. Considering I don’t believe our film brings out or displays any current social issues, it is more based on the overcoming of a challenge not a issue
