Critical Reflection Project #2
For the second CCR Post My group and I did a podcast. I also will be posting my answer typed out to get a better idea of my interpretation and answer of the question across better. The question I answered was "How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?"
My answer: I feel typical coming of age movies can vary in plot and maturity offering ways to entertain lots of different audiences. Although considering our film I feel that it gravitates towards a more specific group with our characters and plot. I would say that it most closely targets young people, teenage age and thinking more specifically I would think that it target girls more than boys. Regarding to the two girl main characters, and girly feel to the film it may not peek boys' interest as much. This film also portrays a very specific lifestyle that may attract an audience because of the girls lives are relatable to others. It shows a typical teenage life that many people can relate to. The two main characters do everything most girls do, giving a familiar feel. Also, thinking about when we watch movies, we often watch things that attract our interest or watch something we wish we had, making us feel and live vicariously through films. Our films beachy feel is something lots of people love and may vicariously feel through it. Also, on an emotional level the it shows a teenage girl navigating through a devastating loss this may attract people who have a similar situation and connect with the film through mutual empathy. Now considering the distributing section of this question, it still relates back to the audience. If we want to properly advertise and distribute a movie you have to heavily consider the audience, you are trying to target. From there you can analyze how the best way to reach that audience is. With our young teen audience we would need to think about where an efficient place to advertise and distribute this film would be. The first place is social media, used by most teen, and ads on snap chat, Instagram, or tiktok can go a long way and very quickly spread the word. Thinking that social media would be a good place to distribute it would also the helpful to create social media accounts specifically for our film. This is a very popular tactic to create hype around a film that isn’t released yet. And last just to release it on regular streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney plus where it could reach a wider audience.
