WEEK 2 - Film Opening Portfolio Project

 Week 2 blog Post 1

Hello! As we move onto the week of our portfolio project, my group and I will create and research our ideas and project to a greater extent. Some of the things that we have defined so far is the genre of our movie. Understanding this will help us give the film opening a specific feel and move in the correct direction of how we want it to be perceived. So, when transitioning into storyboards and planning, things will be clearer. Also, we have clarified the plot. Instead of a general idea of what the plot is. We have decided to go further into the girls' lives and backstories, so we can better portray and better understand their characters.

Genre: The genre of our movie opening is a coming-of-age drama. Coming of age movies or stories contain a young main character usually at teen age. It follows them through their life, whether they learn a lesson or go through an experience. Some famous coming of age movies are “Perks of being a Wallflower” and the famous “Ferris Buellers Day Off” which is my favorite movie. Our movie follows the coming-of-age genre because it follows our character Riley through her life and challenges of learning how to move on through her life without her best friend. At her young age of 16. Although it also fits into the drama category. Drama is a wide genre but described as something more serious and contains emotional and conflict that is relatable to the audience. Some famous drama movies could be “Pulp Fictions” and “Top Gun” in the adventure drama category. Relating to our movie, the death of one of the main characters brings into the drama category.

Plot: The towns famously known duo Riley and Blair take on their lives together when navigating their youth years together. They become well known for being best friends. They were automatic best friends from birth because their moms met in college and became best friends, an planned out Riley and Blair's whole lives together. Riley and Blair grew up as the same person and did everything they could together. They grew up on the same street on the beach in Sarasota, Florida. They enjoyed doing everything by the ocean and everything normal girls did growing up, such as going to the beach, surfing, and going shopping. Anything as long as it was together. They shared everything, even their birthdays. They also attended the same school, and of course they had other friends but none that compared to each other. Although, when the girls we both sixteen they got their driver licenses, and began to go to all their favorite places, especially the beach. And they always were joking about how bad of a driver Blair was, but they never knew that a trait that was simply a joking matter would change their lives forever. One time coming back from a full beach day the girls were on their way home to shower and go out to dinner to celebrate one of their last free nights before school started something happened. They got in a life-threatening car crash, while Blair was driving. Riley then gets a call in the intro with the voice of Blair's mom saying she didn’t survive the incident. And now it is Riley navigating her life by herself. Now keep in mind this is the plot of the intro. All this detail with be portrayed through the intro. In the previous post the synopsis of the intro is explained and will continue to be explained as the week goes on. But it will be shown through clips in montage form and explained through voice overs.
