Week One: Film Opening Portfolio Project
Week One: Film Opening Project-First Post
Welcome back to my blog! So, this is the beginning of the 8-week portfolio opening scene. From here on I will be posting multiple times every week updating everyone on me and my group's updates and progress on our project. This project is what all the things we have learned so far have been leading up to. The summary of this project is that we have 8 weeks to create a 2-minute movie opening scene. Completely created by you and if you choose to work in a group. You can come up with the genre of the movie, plot, characters, and the whole idea in general. Giving us lots of room for creativity and time to give our best product of everything we have learned so far. Personally, I chose to work with my two close friends Kate and Hallie, knowing that we could get together outside of school to work on the project easily. This week we were assigned to come up with a general idea for our opening and decide how we were going to approach the project.
First, we were deciding between horror and coming of age because those are the 2 genres that we studied between the 3 of us in previous projects. Although, we decided to do coming of age movie. The plot of the movie is based off these two friends, who are known to be a dynamic duo within their small town. And then one of the best friends is going to pass away due to a car crash they were both in. The best friend that passed away was known to always be positive and one of the only positive things in the other one's life. Now the best friend that survived must deal with the loss of her best friend and continue with her life. Giving the name of the film its name “Solo”. That is the plot but now the plan on the actual video. We don’t have all the specific shots in order, but we have an idea. So first it is going to start with a peppy coming of age song playing and it is going to be sort of a montage of videos and pictures of the two girls growing up together. So, the classic coming of age shots like old pictures of them when they were little, and videos of them doing things together. We have this idea to add an effect to our videos to make them look like they were filmed on an old film camera, so you can tell it was a video from a long time ago. We also have an idea to show pictures of them and every time we show a picture it will be a still frame and that’s the only time we will put credits on the screen and the other time it will be videos. And within the montage it will have a story line of them going to the beach together. And eventually they will be getting in the car again to come home from the beach. And that part will take up to a minute and end with them driving home. Then the car crash will come. So, the black title screen will come on and this will be a car crash sound effect and the “Solo” title screen will come on. Then the title "Solo" will stay but now the music will change to a sad coming of age song. And it will show the best friend doing everything they used to do together just by herself. So, some of the clips from the beginning where it showed them doing specific things together, she will be doing the same things just by herself, to contrast her life without her best friend. And we plan on having a voice over narrative from the surviving best friend during this second part explaining everything. And that will last the second minute and then it will end when her voice over is done.
