Week 4 Post 3
CHALLENGES
AUDIO: As we started to film this week we came across some of the challenges and learning curves of filming. So the first thing that we mentioned when we filmed was that the sound quality was not quality. So we used the mini mics that were offered by our teacher. We just attached them to our clothing and backpacks and hid them and the sound was clear and loud and eliminated the wind sound that was apparent because we were filming outdoors.
CAMERA: Next thing was that we wanted the best quality we could get, considering our camera which was our phones. So one of the people in my group recently got a new iPhone, we we decided that we were going to use her phone. On her phone we discovered the cinematic feature which is portrait mode but for videos. It makes the quality look very good, and allows the background to be blurred out. The quality was much better and more quality looking than a regular iPhone.
ANGLES/SHOTS: Also of course one of the biggest challenges was figuring out the camera shots, and how things were going to be filmed. If you look back on post 1 you can see photos of the shots that we filmed, and can refer back. First, the shots that were at school in the hallways we wanted to get it with people in the hallways and that was hard considering we were filming in the middle of a class period. So when the bell rang we went outside to get a clip. Another is deciding how we want to film the two shots. We knew we wanted to do them in the middle of campus, outside so we would have the school look but with the natural lighting. And we positioned ourselves in a specific way to get a good background. Besides the setting we decided on the camera shots. We did shots like over the shoulder. This shot was a talking scene but we used this angle to keep the attention on the main character. We also used a tracking shot for where the two girls were talking. And a master shot to show a group of people and compare one of the characters to her surroundings.
ACTING: One of the last challenges and biggest ones of course was the acting. There isn’t much to on this topic but it was hard to get good clips and to stay serious when filming, especially clips where you are by yourself. So we had to take many shots of each clip to get all the previously mentioned things correct and for us to stay serious and collected. So overall wanting to get clips that achieve all of these things, we had many bloopers.
