WEEK 2 - Film n Portfolio Project

                                                                   Week 2 Post 2 

Welcome! We are furthering into week 2 and this post is going to be about research. Research is going to be finding movies and movie intro’s that have qualities we want to translate to our own intro or are similar to what we want to recreate.  

Research: When my group and I first brainstormed and finalized our idea and plot for our intro, my mind immediately went to a movie I had watched before. The movie is called “Miracle Season”. This movie is a sport as drama is is about two best friends. One of the friends was super positive and outgoing, and you could tell from early on what her character was like. The positive one convinces her friend to try out for the volleyball team and, she makes it and they are super excited for their season together. And then one night the positive bestfreinds, who at this point seems to be the main character get into a motorcycle accident and dies. When remembers what happens in this movie there are some parts that we want to be similar for our intro. For example, how the friends dies early on in the movie and its about how they have to move on from her death. In our intro we are going to establish the best friends as a positive light in the other life, and have the accident and her death all in the intro. Which is theoretically the first two minutes of the movie. So similarly the movie is about the other main character moving on with her life. Also when the girl died they filmed a dramatic scene of a cop coming to her families door and telling her father. The scene was very emotional and dramatiziced. We are lookin got also have that dramatic effect of Blair dying. In the intro we will have a recording of a phone call from Blairs mom breaking the news to Riley that Blair didn’t survive. We hope this will bring a more dramatic effect to her death than just the car crash noise, and moving to Rileys voice over of how her life has change is about two best friends. Another movie that helped inspire us on structuring our opening was the movie “Soul Surfer”. This 2011 movie is a biographical drama about the famous surfer Bethany Hamilton, sharing her famous and uplifting story. The movie shares what Bethany’s life was like and then tells the story of the tragic shark attack she was in. And her life after it and navigating how to continue her surfing career, that turned out to be extremely successful. It follows through her challenges and frustration and is very inspiring. I chose Soul Surfer as a movie to reference specifically for the intro. Miracle Season was references more for the plot ideas but the Soul Surfer intro is almost the same as how we are reaching for our intro to be like. First this is the intro…  

As mentioned before we want to have a montage in the begging of videos oft he two girls together. And some we want to make it look like it was filmed on an old camera for the aesthetic of it and to show that it was in the past. And this movie intro perfectly does that. It has a montage of old videos of Bethany and her best friends growing. In addition, as said before in the previous paragraph it shows her journey of overcoming. Which if does not sound familiar to what we are doing and basing our movie plot on, it is.
